Jacob’s Ladder lead songwriter, Gabe Renard, is having a rough start in writing for their next album. In his quest to find some quite and solitude, his journey to North Georgia Mountains took a wrong turn to be stuck in the mud. The help he got is from the form of Rae Hart, the beautiful and sassy woman with a penchant for bad luck. Would Rae be the new muse for Gabe? Would Gabe be able to turn Rae’s life around? Or would their distrustful nature be their doom before it even began?
I absolutely love Katie Ashley! It has been years since we have read anything from the Runaway Train gang but I know that Jacob’s Ladder is in the works. I have kept my eyes opened for this one and it was beautiful! It didn’t feel like it has been years since the last book. Her characters were so memorable that I didn’t need to reread the previous series to re-acquaint myself with the Jacob’s Ladder gang.
Gabe was everything I thought he would be. He’s the yin of the twin brothers. He was your classic broody, manwhore guy. He had his own frustrating moments but you couldn’t help but fall in love with him. I truly adore Rae. She’s one of the few heroines the I actually applaud to. Her life circumstances didn’t break her, it made a stronger woman out of her. I love how Katie Ashley melded these two strong personalities together. From an outsider’s POV, it would seem impossible for them to be together because their personalities clash too much. However, their intensity and drive pulled everything off.
Gabe being the classic rockstar cost this book a star. It made me feel like reading Music of the Heart again. Now, there’ s nothing wrong with that book. I LOVED that book. However, I couldn’t find Gabe’s true person in the beginning. It pains me to admit this, but it almost made me quit the book. I didn’t because I know that this book has a lot to offer. I truly believe that Katie Ashley would never fail to deliver. Well, I don’t think a four-star rating is anything to sneeze at 😉
