Michael’s Wings by Tiffany Reisz

 Michael’s Wings

*ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.*

Griffin Fiske finally popped the question to make an honest man out of Michael Dimir. What did Michael do? Said, yes! Ran to Mistress Nora in New Orleans, of course. Griffin is willing to wait however long Michael needs to make his decision. Would Michael find the answers he’s looking for New Orleans?

I just love this story. It was sweet and oh-so-beautiful. It clearly showed how different and mature they were from their first book, The Angel (The Original Sinners #2). The writing style is sublime, as always. Tiffany Reisz have such a way with words. I almost always feels like she’s actually reading the book to me whenever I read any of her works.

I love that after everything we’ve read of Michael and Griffin, there were still parts of them we haven’t seen. My favorite part is seeing a very vulnerable part of Griffin. It made an amazing impact in the whole story. That issue isn’t mentioned much in the series except for the other short stories. Of course, Mistress Nora always made things interesting. I love that she’s like the bridge that connected Michael and Griffin together. She’s like their big sister… nope. Not going there.

This book contains seven different stories of Michael and Griffin through the years before, during and after the series. A gentle reminder: you need to read the rest of the series if you don’t want any spoilers.

Dirty Pretty Things by Michael Faudet

Dirty Pretty Things

I’ve been meaning to read this book for a while now and I finally had the time and resources to do so. I expected a lot because of all the raving reviews and I wasn’t disappointed. The poetry in this book is just amazing. I don’t have adequate words to do this book justice. I love how a couple of words could form just the right sentence, the right phrase and suddenly your falling in love and crying because it’s the most beautiful thing you’ve ever read.

Put your hands on my knees, she said, and think of me as a book you’ve been dying to read.

I love how different and diverse the poems and short stories are. It was all about love. May it be sex, loss or heartbreak, it all centers on love. I felt like I was being courted, teased and seduced somehow.

See Me Duet by Wendy Higgins

See Me

Robyn Mason is unlike any seventeen-year-old American. She belongs to a magical family and bonded to marry McKale of Emerald Isle in Ireland. Her excitement to marry a young Irish lad turns to dust as obligations and true feelings came to the table. A Fae princess threatens to destroy what they built for her pure selfish gain. Robyn and McKale must trust one another to avoid falling in the clutches of the Fae princess’ hands for the survival of their families.

“The bad thing about romantics was they put themselves out there for heartbreak.”

I absolutely adore Wendy Higgins! I’ve never had much fun with leprechauns like this before. I love this new magical world. Ireland really is a magical place. I laughed and swooned and cried in all the right places. It is kind of light-fantasy for me but it’s not exactly a light read because of… you know that freaking ending!

I love that it isn’t really an insta-love for Robyn and McKale. Robyn may have started as in love with the idea of marriage with McKale but they were given a chance to really get to know one another. I find McKale adorable. He was the ‘giant’ among little people. He was not what I expected for our hero but I still loved him. He won me over by proving the man deserving of Robyn in the end.

Is it bad that I think Cass and Rock stole the show? We need book two! These two… it was just so heartbreaking! I just want to kick that princess in the ass for causing more grief!

Remember Me

Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance, Young Adult

Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout

High school student Ember McWilliams died in a car accident but her gifted little sister brought her back… but with grave consequences. Everything she touches dies. Enter, Hayden Cromwell. The promise of controlling her own powers enough to be able to touch her sister was too great, Ember decided to put their faith in Hayden and his father’s hand. But even in the midst of others with powers like her, Ember finds it hard to trust anyone. Harder still when it became obvious that someone wants her dead. Someone wants to finish what was started the ‘accident’ that killed her.

“You worry about hurting me, but you never seem to worry about me hurting you. And I’m the one with the killer touch.”

At first, I had reservations in reading this book. Ember was like Rogue in X-Men which took originality points from me. I thought it would be a predictable plot line where Hayden would be the knight shinning armor who would save Ember in her lonely existence. However, there were more things involved in the story. The ‘car accident’ started it all and there were secrets that need to be unearthed and bad guys to catch.

I truly love JLA’s writings. Her heroines always had that sarcastic, witty side that cracks me up. Ember may have dealt a bad hand but she’s not broken. She wasn’t selfish to mop all day but find strength in taking responsibility of her little sister. Hayden Cromwell is exactly what you expect from a hero. Gorgeous and beautiful and funny… and in love with our dear Ember. He had a way with words. I couldn’t help but smile and blush in all the right pages.

I truly love this book but I think it ended rather abruptly. I was expecting an ending with more ‘wow’ or ‘boom’ factor. There were still things that needed answers. I want more history, more data in their powers. And if would be just a standalone I think the world building was rushed a bit… but I would complain if there’ll be a few books in the future. *wink* *wink*

Psy-Changeling Season 1 by Nalini Singh (Part 1)

Slave to Sensation

Sascha Duncan’s Silence never did took hold and now twenty-six years later, her mind is in the brink of breaking. She dream and feel and she cannot hide it any longer. Her only choice is to break out of the PsyNet and die or turn herself over the Council and rehabilitate. That is, until she met the alpha of DarkRiver leopard changeling, Lucas Hunter. Lucas tries to infiltrate the Psy in order to find the serial killer responsible for the murders of young chanrling women. Unbeknownst to him, Sascha may be a cardinal Psy but her powers never manifested, thus having no position in the Council. Will Sascha help the changeling in bringing down one of her own people? Or would her loyalty to her people outweigh her feeling for a certain panther?

What a perfect book to start a series! I love everything about this book. It was so different, so diverse, so brilliant! You wouldn’t get bored. It is not only centered on Lucas and Sascha’s love story. There’s a matter of a serial killer on the loose and the Council. I love the political issues. I never thought I’d say that ever, but I love it! It was exciting and thrilling. I also love the other characters, especially Lucas’ sentinels. I can’t wait to hear their stories. Gah, this book is a royal package of feels!

“I wish I’d been born in another time, another place. Then maybe I could’ve escaped fate . . . maybe I could’ve been your darling.”

I love Lucas and Sascha together. They made my heart ache so bad I cried. Their scorchingly-hot chemistry didn’t hurt either though. I love how much of an alpha Lucas is. It was so hot; he made it to my fictional boyfriend list, lol. I also love Sascha even if she’s so stubborn she almost made our ship sink. I guess it was inevitable to love her because along the way her true designation was revealed.

I absolutely adore happy endings that made sense. I’ve read some books that tried to make miracles happen like rain, it never succeeded. I honestly didn’t expect a HEA for these two because their love is just so heartbreaking. They’re from different races and all. I loved how it all turned out in the end.

Visions of Heat

As the most powerful F-Psy in her generation, Faith Nightstar knew that her chance of succumbing to madness is only a matter of time… especially after nights of feeling darkness and terror in her mind. With the news of her sister’s murder, she risk leaving the safety haven of her compound to seek the guidance of Sascha Duncan in the heart of changeling leopard’s territory. Being captured by the jaguar, Vaughn D’Angelo, was not part of the plan. It is not only battle of minds and hearts that awaits in the horizon. Will Faith fight to maintain her conditioning under silence? Or would she surrender in the arms of a changeling only to battle his own darkness?

The dynamics of this series is really astounding! Every turn of the page I’m holding my breath because there may be new revelations since our Psy is a Foreseer. It was so cool! I also find the history of Silence fascinating. The history is so vast; I don’t think it would ever end. I’m hungry for more details about the Mercury, Adelejas and the Arrows!

“Human women have been slapping men for being bastards for centuries. You were doing what comes naturally.”

I truly find Vaughn’s character interesting. The dark brooding male who blends in the shadows always caught my eye. I just knew in the first book that this dominant male will not fall short in making us squirm. *wink wink* I absolutely love the mating dance between these two! Gah, the feels. I felt frustration too because like Sascha, Faith took her damn time before accepting her mate! But it builds up some passionately-hot love scenes. I’m blushing just by remembering it.

I was truly shocked by Anthony’s character. I didn’t expect that to happen at the end but I love it! I think only few could’ve known the complexity behind Anthony… which makes him more interesting for the rest of the series. It just keeps on getting better and better. I foresee more complicated plot twist ahead and I cannot wait!

Caressed by Ice

After the traumatic experience under Councilor Enrique’s hands, Brenna Kincaid no longer bear wounds and bruises but for the dream-visions that’s making her think she’s gonna go insane. She also hasn’t forgotten that Enrique had some help in her abduction and this individual threatens to shatter whatever peace she managed to build. These were not the only threats Brenna sees in the future but also her growing desire to the former Arrow, Judd Lauren. For those who had deadly abilities like Judd, Silence was the answer. He can’t afford to break free if it means harming his family. But with the persistent danger coming Brenna’s way, can Judd suppress his urges to protect her? Will Brenna accept the chances that Judd cannot break from Silence?

I admit that I didn’t expect the third book to be about Judd and Brenna. Looking back, they both made huge impressions on the first two books. But I thought the sentinels of DarkRiver would have their turns first before jumping to the SnowDancers but I love it! It gave us a chance to see how the wolves worked and look out for more juicy stories.

“Aren‘t you going to get up?”
He put a hand on the curve of her hip, a possessive gesture that had already become
“No. Let‘s have more sex.”

Gah! Judd Lauren is something else. I never thought I’d ever fall in love with a Psy, let alone an Arrow. The feels people, the motherfucking feels! My gosh, my ovaries exploded! He is different from an alpha male and changeling but this male knows the moves to leave women panting after him. He’s probably my #1 love for this series! I am in awe with Brenna. She survived so much and managed to find love. I love that she never backed down and gave up. She kicked life’s ass, blow after blow. Go girl power!

This series really packs all the kinds of feels there is. Judd and Brenna’s story is like a roller coaster ride. There were so many ups and downs, I couldn’t keep my head straight sometimes. But surprisingly, I enjoyed it. I love the hurt, disappointment, betrayal, deception along with the positive feelings and happenings.

Review based on ARC provided: can be revised if there’s major changes when published

Financial expert Payton Blake is on the path of making a name for herself. After a big promotion, she needs to thrive to keep her position as the youngest associate let alone a female of Alliance. Which means landing big clients like the genius gamer Max Donovan. Problem is, she told him off in their first meeting… and she’s kind of, a little bit attracted to him. Could Payton resist her cravings and his charms long enough to get what they want out of their deal without compromising their careers?

I was watching you tonight,” he murmured, stroking his thumb over my cheek with surprising gentleness. “Dancing like no one else was there. And the weird thing was, there might as well have been no one there. Twenty thousand people, Payton, and you’re the only one I see.”

Piper Lawson never fails to deliver a book that would make readers cry and fall in love like it was the first time. I had high expectations and it didn’t disappoint! It was actually more than what I bargained for. The story line was amazing. It was not too long, not too short. You’ll laugh and cry and fall in love and laugh some more.

Oh, how I love Payton and Max’s work! I was able to put four years of being an accounting student to good use. Aaaand years of being addicted to online games! I can’t help but feel giddy about it all. There were times that I was frustrated with Payton but I still love her. I love how passionate she is and never settle for less than she deserve. I’ve always love that kind of personality for heroines.  I confess I didn’t have much love for Max at first but he gives out-of-this-world-sex!!! because of all his assholiness but he redeemed himself by Phoenix (watch out for Chapter 28). I didn’t expect it which makes it more perfect! That one was so swoon worthy, I cannot. I want more of these two!

Is it just me or was anyone else hoping that Riley and Charlie would hit it off? Dream on.

The Bird and the Sword by Amy Harmon

The Bird and the Sword

The Bird and The Sword

In a land purged of enchantment, love might be the only magic left.

Moments before Lark’s mother took her last breaths, she prophesized four things. One, she wouldn’t speak again. Two, if she died so will her father. Third, the king will lose his soul. Last, the prince will be lost to the sky. Years had passed and Lark’s still trapped from her mother’s words and her father’s greed, could Lark be anything but a prisoner?

You chose me because I am of use. But I chose you because I wanted you. All I ever wanted was for you to love me in return.

It took me a long time to find the courage to read this. I’ve loved Amy Harmon’s book but this one was different. But then I’ve read raving reviews and two of my best friends read and love it, so I gave it a go. And I just love it! I love the WORDS. It’s poetry on its own. It was thrilling, romantic and so very captivating, I couldn’t put it down!

I love the characters. I love Lark’s perseverance and loyalty. She’s a strong woman despite everything she’s been through as a child. I was so frustrated at Tiras in the beginning because it was so obvious that he’s using Lark for her gifts… but they’re little moments together just brought all the feels. They’re love story is just so heartbreaking.

I guessed who’s the villain was so there’s no surprise when that character reappeared. I also had suspicions with this character, so when this character showed betrayal, I didn’t share the same feelings as our heroine. But I love how it all turned out in the end. The epilogue was bittersweet, I got a bit teary-eyed. So here’s to four-point-five stars!
